This paper analyzes the trajectory of the history course of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul since its implementation as a geography and history course at the School of Philosophy (1943) until 1970, when the latter was closed, thus giving way to the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences, created after the University Reform of 1968. This is an attempt to follow the main changes that occurred in its curriculum, in the faculty composition and in its recruiting processes, along with the initiatives directed at the education for teaching in upper-secondary schools and at historical research. This study is expected to contribute to the reflections on the articulation between history and its places of production in Brazil.
