Abstract

The configuration process of the Uruguayan historiographical field was slow. It began to bedefined by the middle of XXth century when education and professionalization centers like theFaculty of Humanities and Sciences of the University of the Republic (1945) and the Institute ofProfessors Artigas (1949) were established. The backgrounds go back to the period ofmodernization and were articulated in a diffuse transnational space, of Rio de la Plata area,conditioned by the guidelines provided by an intense interaction among authors and currentswhich generated founding stories and identity mythemes of nationalist character. The objectivesof this article are to analyze its records, its consolidation process, and to identify its particularcharacteristics.
