About the Journal

The journal História da Historiografia (History of Historiography, HH) can be seen as a milestone in the consolidation of studies on the theory of history and the history of historiography in Brazil and Latin America. In Brazil, the journal is related to the significant mobilization of researchers around questions and problems of a theoretical, epistemological, conceptual and methodological nature, observed since the 1970s and which, from the end of the 1980s, acquired increasingly sophisticated contours. The progressive specialization of the field of History throughout the 1990s has produced evident results at the beginning of the 21st century: from the creation of research lines and groups, through the holding of various events to the multiplication of publications and journals, some of which have a specialized profile in sub-areas of research. This is the case with HH, whose first issue was published in 2008, on the initiative of researchers from the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).

Published exclusively online, HH became a publication of the Brazilian Society for the Theory and History of Historiography (SBTHH), in partnership with the Graduate Programs in History at UFOP and UNIRIO, in 2010. That same year, it began accepting submissions in other languages and currently welcomes articles in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Since 2014, it has had the collaboration of executive editors linked to various Brazilian and foreign institutions, which has broadened its national and international insertion. In addition, in line with international practices, it has started to assign the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to all articles.

The commitment to adopting the best editorial policies has produced some results. In its first Qualis / CAPES evaluation, in 2010, HH was classified in stratum B2 of the History area. In the following evaluation, in 2012, it reached stratum B1 and, since 2013, it has been in stratum A1. That same year, it joined the Scopus database. In 2019, it was incorporated into the Emerging Sources Citation Index collection of the Web of Science and, in 2023, it was admitted to SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online.

Another significant concern of the journal's editors is the dissemination and diversification of ways of communicating knowledge. Until 2019, the journal accepted submissions of articles, reviews, interviews and historiographical documents. However, that same year, it opted to publish only original and review articles, keeping the focus on academic dialog between peers, which mirrors the editorial policies of the world's leading scientific journals. At the same time, with the aim of broadening the dissemination of research in the area of history theory and the history of historiography, as well as encouraging multiple possibilities of communication with diverse audiences, HH, in partnership with SBTHH, UFOP and UNIRIO, promoted the creation of a specific portal for this purpose: HH Magazine - humanities on the web, which publishes essays, chronicles, reviews, interviews, poetry, teaching experiences, podcasts and videos related to the human sciences. This has extended the reach of História da Historiografia itself, which has consolidated itself as a kind of brand capable of attesting to the quality of its publications.
